Popular Ways to Give:
Deepen Your Connections
You want to leave money to the Children’s Advocacy Center in your will. You also want the flexibility to change your will in the event that life circumstances change. You can do both.
In as little as one sentence, you can complete your gift. This type of donation in your will or living trust, helps ensure that we continue our mission for years to come.
“I, [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to the Children’s Advocacy center of Southern Arizona, 2329 E Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ 85713, [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”
Here’s How it Works
When Steve and Maria got married they created a will, and they included a $25,000 gift to the Children’s Advocacy Center. As the family grew to include four children, they decided to revise their gift to ensure their children’s future financial security.
They met with their attorney and revised the gift language so that the Children’s Advocacy Center received a percentage of their estate, instead of a specific amount. Steve and Maria now rest easy knowing their plans will provide for the people and charitable cause they love.

You can Make a Gift in 3 Easy Steps
Beneficiary Designations Are Easy and Flexible
Not everyone wants to commit to making a gift in their will or estate. Some prefer the increased flexibility that a beneficiary designation provides by using:
- IRAs and retirement plans
- Life insurance policies
- Commercial annuities
It only takes three, simple steps to make this type of gift. Here’s how to name The Children’s Advocacy Center as a beneficiary:
- Contact your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution for a change-of-beneficiary form.
- Decide what percentage (1 to 100) you would like us to receive and name us, along with the percentage you chose, on the beneficiary form.
- Return the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution.
Here’s How It Works
Alan and Ellen appreciate the financial help they’ve been able to give their children and The Children’s Advocacy Center over the years. The couple recently updated their will to leave stocks and real estate to their kids. They left The Children’s Advocacy Center a $75,000 IRA to be transferred following their lifetime. Because The Children’s Advocacy Center is tax-exempt, all $75,000 will help support our mission.
If Alan and Ellen had left the IRA to their children, approximately $18,000* would have gone to pay federal income taxes-leaving only $57,000 for their family’s use. They are happy knowing they are making the most of their hard-earned money thanks to their updated estate plan.
*Based on an assumption of a 24% marginal income tax bracket.

Gifts that Pay You Income:
Gifts That Pay You Income
You give and you receive
There’s a way for you to support The Children’s Advocacy Center and feel confident that you have dependable income in your retirement years. You can do this with a charitable gift annuity.
This type of donation can provide you with regular payments and allow us to further our work. You can also qualify for a variety of tax benefits, including a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize.
An Example of How It Works
Richard, 66, and Betty, 65, want to make a gift to The Children’s Advocacy Center but they also want to ensure that they have dependable income during their retirement years. They establish a $20,000 charitable gift annuity.
Based on their ages, they will receive a payment rate of 3.9%, which means that they will receive $780 each year for the remainder of their lives. They are also eligible for a federal income tax charitable deduction of $4,878* when they itemize. Finally, they know that after their lifetimes, the remaining amount will be used to support our mission.
*Based on a 1.2% charitable midterm federal rate. Deductions and calculations will vary depending on your personal circumstances.

Solutions for Large Donations
The Advantages of a Charitable Remainder Trust
If you have built a sizeable estate and also are looking for ways to receive reliable payments, consider charitable remainder trust. A charitable remainder trust provides you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create.
These types of gifts may offer you tax benefits and the option for income. There are two ways to receive payments and each has its own benefits:
- The annuity trust pays you, each year, the same dollar amount you choose at the start. Your payments stay the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.
- The unitrust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. The amount of your payments is re-determined annually. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. If the value decreases, however, so will your payments.
An Example of How It Works
Jan, 76, wants to make a gift to the Children’s Advocacy Center but would also like more income in the future. She creates a charitable remainder unitrust with annual lifetime payments to her equal to 5% of the fair market value of the trust assets as revalued annually. She funds the trust with assets valued at $500,000.
Jan receives $25,000 the first year from the trust. Subsequent payment amounts vary each year depending on the annual valuations of the trust assets. She is eligible for a federal income tax charitable deduction of $299,845* in the year she creates and funds the trust. This deduction saves Susan $95,950 in her 32% tax bracket.
*Based on a 1.2% charitable midterm federal rate. Deductions and calculations will vary depending on your personal circumstances.

Other Smart Ways to Give:
A Tax-Saving Way to Help the Children’s Advocacy Center
And You Can See Your Generosity in Action
If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center and receive tax benefits in return. You can give any amount up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the money. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.
Why Consider This Gift?
- Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference your donation is making.
- You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
- If you reached the age of 70½ on or before Dec. 31, 2019, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution for the year. If you turn 70½ on or after Jan. 1, 2020, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution starting at the age of 72. (Note: The RMD requirement has been waived for 2020, per the CARES Act signed into law on March 27, 2020.)
- Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Create a Lasting Tribute
When You Honor Someone Special with a Future Gift in Their Name
If you have a loved one that you want to honor with a gift to the Children’s Advocacy Center, establishing a memorial or tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor them or celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday while supporting the work of our mission. Your memorial or tribute gift will be a lasting tribute to your loved one and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
An Example of How It Works
When Rick’s mother passed away, he knew he wanted to do something that would establish a lasting legacy for her. He remembered that during her lifetime she was always praising the Children’s Advocacy Center for its tireless efforts to better the community.
Rick decided to make a gift to the Children’s Advocacy Center in his mother’s name using appreciated securities. Not only will his mother’s legacy live on at the Children’s Advocacy Center thanks to the gift and a commemorative plaque, but Rick also received a federal income tax charitable deduction (because he itemizes his taxes) and eliminated capital gains tax on the securities.

Your Gift Can Last Forever
The Power of an Endowed Gift for the Children’s Advocacy Center
An endowment gift to the Children’s Advocacy Center today provides a brighter picture for our future. When you make a donation to our endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits.
Endowment donations are invested. A portion of the annual income from the investment is used to address immediate needs at the Children’s Advocacy Center. The remaining funds are reinvested to ensure indefinite support.
An Example of How It Works
Longtime supporters Crystal and Carlos have two goals: First, they want to make sure the Children’s Advocacy Center continues to receive support after they’re gone. Second, they want to memorialize Carlos’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez.
Crystal and Carlos make a $25,000 donation to the Children’s Advocacy Center, which is invested, and each year, a portion of the income from the invested money will be used to support our mission in honor of the Ramirez family. Plus, Crystal and Carlos qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction on their taxes.

Protecting Your Assets
Charitable Lead Trusts Offer You Options
You can benefit from the tax savings that result from supporting the Children’s Advocacy Center without giving up the assets that you’d like your family to receive someday with a donation in the form of a charitable lead trust.
There are two ways that charitable lead trusts make payments to the Children’s Advocacy Center:
- A charitable lead annuity trust pays a fixed amount each year to the Children’s Advocacy Center and is more attractive when interest rates are low.
- A charitable lead unitrust pays a variable amount each year based on the value of the assets in the trust. With a unitrust, if the trust’s assets go up in value, for example, the payments to the Children’s Advocacy Center go up as well.
An Example of How It Works
Sam would like to support the Children’s Advocacy Center and provide for his children. Sam received a windfall amount of income and needs a large income tax deduction to offset the income. Following his advisor’s recommendation, he funds a grantor charitable lead annuity trust with assets valued at $1,000,000. This trust pays $70,000 (7% of the initial fair market value) to the Children’s Advocacy Center each year for 15 years, which will total $1,050,000. After that, the balance in the trust reverts back to Sam. He receives an income tax charitable deduction of $955,700. Assuming the trust earns an average 6% annual rate of return, Sam receives approximately $767,240 at the end of the trust term.
